Mu Xin Art Museum presented the special exhibition Beethoven: The Hero The Man from May 3 to August 3, 2025. Organized in collaboration with Wien Museum, Staatsbibliothek zu Berlin, Ernst Barlach Foundation, the exhibition was supported by Consulate General of the Federal Republic of Germany in Shanghai and Embassy of the Republic of Austria.

On display were over fifty items loaned by these partner institutions, including sculptures, prints, and a death mask of Beethoven, as well as a series of thematic prints on Ode to Joy from Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9. The exhibition also featured more than twenty rare autograph manuscripts from private collections in China—among them important scores such as the Song of Ophelia and the Emperor Concerto. Additional documents included Beethoven’s autograph letters, his obituary notices, correspondence by Goethe, Schiller, and Mendelssohn, and first editions of early nineteenth-century scores of Beethoven’s most famous works, including the Symphony No. 9.
